I hiked part of the Appalachian trail yesterday. Approximately 7 miles total. I started out at the Sunrise Mountain overlook, hiked to the Culver Fire Tower and then retraced the path back to the car. It was hot. Even in the shade it was warm enough to make me sweat. That's saying something coming from a Floridian!

Rides
I've never fancied myself a risk taker. In fact, I've spent most of my life watching others take risks and learning from their recklessness. For some reason riding on the back of a motorcycle with Evan doesn't feel like much of a risk.

Dirty 30
It's been looming since last year about this time and it has only gotten worse as time goes on. Birthdays are a rough time for me. There is something about getting a year older that I have always found disconcerting. This birthday in particular is a big one.

Friends in high places
I find it amazing how important connections with other people are to a person as anti-social as I am. I have a few childhood friends that started out as friends more out of convenience than because of any deep personal connection. Those friendships have lasted because of our history and in some cases because we have found ourselves on similar paths with similar interests.
